Latex (LA)

Latex (LA) is generally a polymer dispersion, i.e. a mixture of plastic particles and a water-like liquid. This applies to a wide variety of fabrics, but not all are suitable for the garment industry. Latex clothing is made from rubber. Either petroleum or natural rubber, the sap of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), is used as the raw material. Rubber and natural rubber are chemically completely identical. However, the rubber must first be stabilised and made resistant to environmental stresses. Therefore, sulphur is added during vulcanisation, which makes this rubber more elastic. This makes the fabric stretchable.
